India’s weightlifter Satish Kumar Shivalingam put another gold medal in the Indian side on Saturday on the third day of the 21st Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. Indian weightlifter Satish Kumar Shivalingam has won gold medal in 53kg category.
Let us tell that on the first day, India’s Mirabai Chanu had given the first gold to the country and the second was won by Sanjita Chanu, the star weightlifter of India. In the men’s category, Gururaja of India won the Silver Medal. Weightlifter Gururaja Pujari raised 249 kg in a 56 kg category. This is India’s third gold in these games and the five medals is the total. All these medals have come in weightlifting. Deepak Lather won the bronze medal in the 69 kg category. So far, India has already made five medals with three gold medals.
Satish took the best load of 144 in the snatch, while picking the best load of 173 in clean and jerk. Overall, his score was 317. They did not need a third attempt in clean and jerk. The tournament’s silver medal was won by England’s Jack Oliver, who scored a total of 312. Australian Francois Eatoundi took the bronze medal with a total score of 305.
Satish picked up the weight of 136 kilograms in the first attempt of snatch. He did better in the second attempt and raised 140 kilograms load. In the third attempt he did better and raised the weight of 144 kilograms.
Although England’s Oliver snatched the best of 145 kilograms in the snatch, he missed the mark of 148 in his last attempt. In the clean and jerk, Satish completely showed his power. He raised 169 kilograms in the first attempt. Jack could only make one successful attempt. Indian player raised 173 kg in second attempt.
After this, they did not need a third attempt, and Jack and Francois could afford only 167 and 162 kilograms respectively. This is Satish’s second consecutive gold medal in the Commonwealth Games. He had also captured gold in the Commonwealth Games last time at Glasgow in 2014.
