M.S Dhoni took the Padma Bhushan in Lieutenant Colonel’s uniform: For Team India’s former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, today’s day is of double happiness. In fact, Dhoni was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian honor on Monday evening. President Ramnath Kovind honored him with the Padma Award at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The most interesting thing is that 7 years ago on today’s day (today, 2 April 2011) MS Dhoni had made India the World Cup champion after 28 yerars and on the same day, Dhoni was awarded this award. Apart from Dhoni, this honor was given to Indian billiards player Pankaj Advani.

As we know, the Indian army has given the honorary title of Lieutenant Colonel to the M.S Dhoni. After winning India’s 50-over World Cup for the second time under Dhoni’s leadership, Indian Territorial Army honored him with the honorary post of Lieutenant Colonel on November 1, 2011. After Kapil Dev, Dhoni is the second cricketer of India to be given this honor. Dhoni got this award from President Rama Nath Kovind in Rashtrapati Bhavan.

It is worth noting that ‘Men in Blue’ had won the dream of Indian fans by defeating Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the iconic Wankhede Stadium of Mumbai. In the day-night match after winning the toss Sri Lanka had decided to bat first. Mahela Jayawardene made 103 in this match, which helped Sri Lanka to score 274 runs losing on 6 wickets. In reply, Team India achieved the target by losing four wickets with 10 balls remaining and got the title of World Cup.

In the final match, Capt cool had completed the dream of millions of fans by placing a magnificent six in helicopter shot on the ball of Nuwan Kulasekara. In this match, then captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored an unbeaten 91 not out. Virender Sehwag made 0 and Sachin Tendulkar made 18 runs for India, but Gautam Gambhir played a magnificent innings of 122 runs in 97 balls. He shared a 83-run partnership with Virat Kohali (35) for the third wicket and Gautam Gambhir played a vital role with the entire team in winning the World Cup, as he had done excellent innings. Let us know that Team India is the first team in the world, which has won the World Cup trophy as well as hosting the tournament.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has also received many honors, such as the 2008 ICC ODI Player of the Year Award (the first Indian to be given the honor), the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award and the fourth highest civilian honor in India, along with the Padma Shri award in 2009. In 2009, Dhoni was given captaincy status in the first Dream Test XI team of Wisden.
